Loss is a hard concept to grasp. It affects everyone differently, and there is no “normal” way to handle losing someone. One thing is for sure however; loss has a way of helping us remember and love that person in all the ways that they deserve.
The Lafayette Community is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear classmate, teammate and friend Brian Keller. Brian was a member of the football team, the Chi Phi Fraternity, and a mechanical engineering major. Brian had the uncanny ability to make you feel special and develop friendships in every aspect of his life as a Lafayette student.
There are a lot of things that can be said for Brian. First of all, he was a fighter in every sense of the word. Brian fought for every moment he was on the football field, and he fought to develop and maintain friendships. Brian was always working to be his best in all that he did and he shared his kindness, laughter, and spirit with us each and everyday. We were lucky to have called him a classmate, friend, fraternity brother and teammate.
On top of being a fighter, Brian was an athlete through and through. Brian took great pride and joy in being a football player and if you could not tell from looking at his larger than life 6’ 3” frame, he would tell you all about it and how much he loved the sport. However Brian enjoyed all sports and was never afraid to pick up a new one.
In addition to football, he played basketball, baseball and ran track in high school. On any given day, you could find him leaping across the quad to catch a Frisbee, or fearlessly strutting across the tight line, despite the fact that he had just learned how fifteen minutes earlier. Brian, always willing to try something new worked towards perfection in all that he undertook.
Brian made friends as easily as you or I can blink; it just came naturally to him. On top of knowing and getting along with every athlete on campus, he was also great friend with many non- athletes, members of different clubs and organizations. Brian was well known and liked in every circle on campus.
The members of Athletes C.A.R.E. join with the Lafayette community in remembering Brian Keller, an outstanding young man.
He will remain in our hearts forever.
