Running4Hunger Success!

If you traveled out to Metzgar Fields this Saturday, you would have heard clapping and cheering as kids sprinted back and forth in a 100 meter relay race. This was the final activity for Athletes C.A.R.E’s first Running4Hunger clinic, hosted by the Lafayette Track and Field team. Throughout the afternoon, kids eager to learn the ins-and-outs of track and field tested out their running, jumping, and throwing skills.  Using games such as obstacle courses and bean bag tosses, 6-13 year olds learned that track and field can be fun. The Lafayette team gave lessons on shot put techniques, long jump form, and sprinting starts.

The clinic not only gave kids an opportunity to try out track and field, but it helped the Lehigh Valley Community. Admission was a donation of canned goods, which are going to the Nazareth Area Food Bank. Nearly 200 cans were donated, with many coming from the generous fans of the Lafayette men’s and women’s soccer teams.

The donations were a great accomplishment, but the best part of the event came at the end.  After an afternoon of kids asking “When can we race?”, the excitement in the kids’ faces was evident when they heard the words “On your marks, get set, GO!”

Thanks to the Lafayette Track and Field team for their participation and congratulations on the successful and fun event!
