On a snowy afternoon in early April, the Lafayette College branch of Athletes CARE hosted their 2nd annual Ball4Hunger Clinic with the Leopards Men's and Women's Basketball teams for 76 children from the Lehigh Valley area. For admission into the clinic, families were asked to donate non-perishable food items. The 277 cans and 97 food items collected along with a were given to the Nazareth Area Food Bank.
The participants were enthusiastic about the drills that the student-athletes had planned for them. They learned about shooting, dribbling, passing, communication, and teamwork throughout the afternoon. They competed in a clinic-wide shooting knockout tournament, where the lucky winner received a vintage Lafayette jersey signed by both basketball teams. There was also a dunk contest between some student-athletes that was judged by the kids based on creativity and execution. Senior Billy Murphy was the fan favorite. It was a constructive clinic for everyone involved and benefited a worthy cause. We would like to thank all the parents and children who donated and attended the clinic considering the weather conditions. We are hoping to expand to include more sports in our "4Hunger" clinic series in the future.
We would also like to thank all the student-athletes for giving their time back to the community.
